What to Watch Tonight? “A Christmas Miracle”

A Hallmark Christmas Movie

Tamera Mowry-Housley stars in the movie, “A Christmas Miracle,” along with Brooks Darnell.  She is still the sweet girl she was in Sister, Sister days, but now she is a lovely, single mother, named Emma, who is trying to make a home for her little boy and herself in a new city.

What would you do if someone stole your ideas at work and claimed them for their own?  What if you had a chance to expose them, and possibly do yourself some good in the process?  Find out what happens when Emma is in that position.

In the past, it has run on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel.   But check your television provider’s schedule for the current time and location to see this movie.

There have been complaints that Hallmark movies can be too cookie cutter.  That does not apply to this one, it is a good story that will keep you entertained until the end.

Don’t miss this 5-popcorn (5-star) movie, I highly recommend it!

“The End of the Magi” by Patrick W. Carr

And Wise Men Came from the East….

At last, Myrad has had a prophetical dream, his key to becoming a Magi—an elite and powerful group that advises the king.  Suddenly, the Queen slaughters the Magi including his adopted father.  Myrad doesn’t know which will kill him first, the murderous solders pursuing him, or the desert he is forced to make his escape in.  He goes through thrilling circumstances with unfriendly characters while he tries to piece together his father’s cryptic last words.

Myrad, disabled and unaccepted, now with a price on his head, refuses to give up the quest.  Astonishingly, he nightly sees a brilliant star that others do not.  Because of that, he ends up being part of a group that visits a small baby in lowly surroundings.

This amazing book tells the birth of Jesus through the eyes of the Wise Men.  Despite being puzzled by the humble conditions of the child, these men remain true to the prophesies, and hail him as a king.  Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection are all seen through their perspective.

This exciting account has mystery, thrills, romance along with the greatest story ever told.  All of these things are told in an upright way that does not degrade the story of Jesus.  You won’t want to put this one down without finishing it!  I highly recommend this 5+ star book to any who would like to consider what it might have been like for the mystery men….those “who came from the East.”

“Peppa Pig and the Christmas Play” by Candlewick Press

Christmas Fun with Peppa!

Join the excitement as Peppa Pig along with her friends plan a Christmas play.  Spirits are high, with Madame Gazelle letting them have lots of creative roles.   But the only thing Peppa wants is for Santa to attend the play.  She is told how busy Santa is, that he is going all over town to hear the children’s requests, and he might not make it.   But Peppa insists she invited Santa and he said he would come—but can he possibly make it?

Anticipation will build for the children reading or hearing this story.  Colorful pictures will delight little eyes, and the conclusion will bring smiles all around.  This 5-star tale is fun during the Christmas season, but children will like it year-round, as well.  This fun, over-sized, hardbacked picture book will be enjoyed by all children who like Santa, and stories about him.

“In the Cradle Lies” by Olivia Newport

The Cradle Tells All!

Friends, Jillian and Kris, are overwhelmed when a stranger, Tucker, plunks down hundreds of dollars to pay for Kris’ skis.  The entire Colorado skiing town of Canyon Mines, is amazed by the arrival of the rash spending, fast driving and reckless skiing, Tucker.  Even more shocking is his announcement that he intends to ski Hidden Run.  This dangerous place was rarely used years ago when it was open—and is even more treacherous now.

Kris is so smitten by Tucker, she seems ready to throw caution to the wind, and ski the dangerous run, too.  While concerned people try to stop this, more mystery surfaces.  As Jillian uses her genealogy skills to uncover questionable things about Tucker, another surprise comes with the arrival of an unexpected person.

Will Tucker stubbornly refuse to ski safely, and kill himself or others?  What was the grandfather hiding all those years that has affected Tucker?  What is the secret between Jillian’s dad and uncle that has kept them at odds for decades?

Unforeseen twists and turns, made this story exciting, and attention grabbing.  The genealogy results made the book even more interesting.  The characters face real-life problems, including wondering how God fits into it all—along with some possible answers.  This story stands alone even though it is the second in the series, Tree of Life.  I recommend this well-written, 5-star book to anyone who has ever been shocked by something in their family or struggled with a relationship.

“Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam McBratney

Illustrated by Anita Jeram, 25th Anniversary Edition

The Size of Love!

How do you put love into words? Little and Big Nutbrown Hares try to figure that out in this book about the enduring love between an adult and child.  Little compares his love for Big to things that can be seen.  For instance, he says his love is as big as he can hop, or as wide as he can spread his arms.  But Little is disappointed that Big can do it, too, with bigger hops and wider arm spreads.  Little exhausts himself trying to find a way to describe his love in a way that is unique to just him.   As he drifts off to sleep, he believes he has done it.

Children adore being loved and telling others about their love for them, and this timeless story does a good job doing that.  The two bunnies give lots of warm fuzzies to each other, as well as, to the reader–especially with the much-loved phrase, “I love you right up to the moon—and back.”

In celebration of the 25th Anniversary Edition, this book has large, oversized, premium-paper pages; a sturdy hard-back cover; and a matching slip-cover with a keepsake print.

Although this book can be read anytime, it makes a lovely bedtime story.  This 5-star picture book will be adored by non-readers to beginning readers who enjoy being loved, and telling others of their love for them.

“A Foundation of Fear” by Kim McMahill

A Killer Diet!

As a successful diet program collapses from the use of a dangerous food ingredient, FBI agents try to uncover if this problem was known ahead of time.  The story includes a variety of people, some who truly are innocent while others are killers, schemers and those willing to make money no matter what.  FBI agent, Devyn Nash, tries to sort through them all, while keeping herself alive along with her partner and best friend.  Lots of action, settings, and story-lines blend together to bring this tale to an exciting conclusion.

This is the third book in the series, Risky Research.  Because of that, the reader will face a large cast of characters, situations and continued story threads from earlier installments.  Despite that, it is a good story, and you will wonder who is going to win the struggle in the end.  A Foundation of Fear is a clean tale with a sprinkling of romance that can be enjoyed by all, although beer and alcohol is used in the yarn.  This 5-star book will be appreciated by those who like suspense, fast-moving action, thrills or well-written fiction.

“Black Beauty” by Anna Sewell

Trot a mile in my shoes!

What does the world look like through the eye of a horse?  This classic story will tell you all that and more.  Black Beauty relates his tale from the time he is young living in a meadow with his mom, to the time he is a much older horse, and alone.  During that time, Beauty faces all kinds of situations from the very best to the worse along with many things in between.

Horse lovers, of course, will adore this story, however anyone will enjoy this book.  From the first page, you will be drawn into Beauty’s saga and wonder how he will face the different situations he finds himself in.  No matter what life throws his way, Beauty remains undiscouraged. Even the cruel things he faces do not cause him to become bitter or to dislike humans.

This rendition of the book is beautiful, substantial and has a nice hard-backed cover.  High quality paper is used for the pages along with lovely color illustrations generously sprinkled throughout the volume–making this a great gift for others, or yourself.

The story itself is timeless.  Love of animals and fair treatment are understood as well today as they were when it was first published.  This work was the lifetime achievement of the author, an invalid who relied on horses to carry her.  Because of that, she developed a love for them, and became a champion for equine fair treatment. Teens through adults will enjoy this 5-star book, as well as, younger children, although it would need to be read to them.  I recommend it.
