Sleigh Bells Ring
“This is a Christmas Intervention!” Miranda almost shouted those words to a scowling Marcus, a man she had only just met. Yet here she stood in his kitchen making Christmas cookies with his seven-year-old daughter, getting the brunt of his anger.
Miranda found herself in this uncomfortable position because of her friend Joy. With Miranda’s help, her Christmas loving pal started a blog called Christmas Joy, and held a contest with five winners. Joy, eighty-five years young, then decided she wanted to drive her RV along Route 66 from her Chicago home to Arizona. Along the way, she wanted to stop at each contest winner’s location, and deliver their prize.
Get your kicks on Route 66!
Recently, Joy’s sons had convinced her to sell the home her husband built decades earlier, and relocate to an assisted living apartment in Phoenix. Both men lived there, and wanted her closer to them. Instead of flying out, as her children thought she would, Joy wanted to make this trip–secretly–instead. As she made her way across the country, she planned to spread Christmas cheer.
“It’s a Christmas Joy Ride,” Joy enthusiastically tells Miranda as she asks her to come with her.
Ready for adventure?
Miranda is recovering from a messy divorce that has almost cleaned her out financially and emotionally. Thinking a change would be good, and wanting to help Joy, Miranda agrees. However, she is overwhelmed by how big the RV is, and that Joy has decorated it inside and out, including writing Christmas Joy Ride in large letters all over the outside. They have barely made the first stop, when a few things begin to unravel.
Joy has no worries. As she tells Miranda, “Just have a little faith. God will watch over us. And we will have a great adventure. You’ll see!”
Before the Joy Ride is over, the women face a life-or-death situation, robbery and a bit of romance. They endure exasperating experiences when trying to bestow the prizes, and an individual who is not happy to be a winner. Their journey becomes a race against the weather, and the intense schedule they need to follow to make all the stops on time.
The Christmas Joy Ride is fun to read, and has a great story. Like all good Christmas stories, it has a happy ending, and will leave a smile on your face. Pick up this 5-star book and you, too, can enjoy a Christmas Joy Ride! You will not be disappointed. Use it to prepare for Christmas, or enjoy it any time of the year. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes well-written stories set during the Christmas season.
