In The Husband Maneuver by Karen Witemeyer: For a long time, Marietta has been in love with Daniel, whose life has been fictionalized in the “Dead-Eye Dan” book series. Daniel works at her family’s ranch, and acts like Marietta is invisible. That is other than the time he saw her reading a Dead-Eye book, that sent him into a rage. He hates the book series, and the way people think he is just like that character. Marietta still has hopes for the two of them, until she heard he is quitting the ranch in just a few weeks. Can she plot a way to win his heart in that short time, especially since she hasn’t been successful in the years he has worked there?
In Her Dearly Unintended, by Regina Jennings: Katie and Josiah were once childhood friends, but now are squabbling adversaries. Unfortunately, they must pretend to be married in order to be safe from a killer, one who is watching their every move. Katie can hardly keep a civil tongue in her mouth when Josiah is around. Now she is forced to stay in the same room with him, and act like she loves him. Can they be convincing, or will their ongoing constant irritation with each other be the literal death of the two of them?
In Runaway Bride by Mary Connealy: Carrie and, her brother Isaac, are chased hundreds of miles by a dangerous man, along with his seemly unending band of hired thugs. The man is intent on forcing her to marry him. A wonderful group of people has pledged to help Carrie, but she is concerned they might lose their lives in her defense. The safest solution for all concerned seems almost as unthinkable as marrying the brute who is chasing her. Can she do that?
In Engaging the Competition, by Melissa Jagears: Bookish, school teacher Harrison finds himself uncomfortably involved with the biggest tomboy in the area, Charlotte. He hasn’t wanted anything to do with her since they were children. That is when Charlotte bested Harrison at shooting, in front of all the boys in town, and he has never forgotten it. He now finds himself too close for comfort with the rough, tough ranch owner Charlotte has become. These two couldn’t possibly find romance together, or could they?
These stories contain good clean fun, excitement, and clever story-lines with lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed these four adventures, and their Christian viewpoint. Somehow love and romance works its way into the relationships of all of these somewhat unlikely couples. As is the sign of any good work, I was sorry for them to end. I highly recommend you open up this 5-star book for some rollicking, good tales.
