“Kit Kat & Lucy” by Lonnie Hull DuPont

Lonnie DuPont’s life was changed by a new relationship that brought her love, companionship, and lowered her anxiety.  If you make the assumption that this is the tale of the author and her husband, Joe, you would be wrong.  Instead, these life changes occurred after Lonnie and Joe adopted a stray cat, named Kit Kat.  Or rather, Kit Kat adopted them.

This book is an endearing collection of true stories the author experienced after a cat came to be a part of her and Joe’s life.  The couple had recently left the bustle of San Francisco to live in an isolated farm house in Michigan.  Lonnie had been used to rubbing shoulders with large numbers of people daily.  Suddenly, she found herself spending lots of time alone each day.  Joe’s daily one and a half hour commute left lots of uninterrupted hours of silence for the author.

Then Kit Kat entered their lives, and everything changed.  Kit Kat made an incredible journey of several miles in order to stay with them.  cat-drawing-black-white-free-useThis small furry animal had a definite personality, and both the DuPonts enjoyed learning Kit Kat’s likes and dislikes–and she definitely had them.  Lonnie reveled in the love that one little cat could give, and she shares stories of the different ways that took place.  She also describes the deep affection Kit Kat and Joe develop for each other.

This is a sweet book about the DuPont’s life after becoming cat owners.  The author shares some dear stories that will touch your heart, and make you want to get a cat if you don’t already have one.  Adopting first one, then two cats really did change Lonnie’s life, and her tales about how that happened will delight you.  She also reminisces about other animals that passed through her life in her childhood, as well as, during her growing up years.  All in all, this is a great book for any animal lover, and if you aren’t, you may find your attitude changed after reading this book.  Lonnie really pours out her heart in this memoir.  She makes a very good case that not all family members walk on two feet–some have four paws and fur!  I highly recommend this 5-star book.cat-dancing-playing-banjo-cartoon-free-use
