“Beyond the Tides” by Liz Johnson

A Good Fish Story!

Ten years ago, Oliver ruined Meg’s chance for a scholarship when he destroyed her high school science project.  Ever since, Meg has held a grudge, and can’t stand him.

Today, her dad surprised her by saying he is getting rid of the family fishing business. Her dad wants to devote himself to her mother who has a terminal disease.  Despite being able to get a lot of money for the business, Meg can’t believe her ears that he plans to sell it to Oliver, and cheaply.

Meg is so upset that she says she wants the business.  This is regardless of her lack of fishing knowledge, or that she is given to horrible seasickness, and she will have to give up teaching to have the business.

Her dad says Meg and Oliver must work together during the upcoming season.  Their performance will determine who gets it.  The following weeks are backbreaking and difficult.  Then things start happening:  their lobster traps are stolen; someone sabotages a vital instrument.

Who is trying to cripple them? Is Oliver looking to get the business just so he can re-sell it at a huge profit? Meg can barely handle her mom’s deterioration, is there a better way to get through it?

This tale is full of family love despite hardships, discovering that learning the whole story can change your viewpoint, and romance.  The culprit behind the boat vandalism is a surprise.  This clean, five-star book is told from a Christian viewpoint, and will be enjoyed by fans of sweet stories whose characters succeed even through difficulties!
