“Grandma Snuggles” by Glenys Nellist

Want a Hug?

Hugs of every type await little ones throughout the pages of this book. Children will see a variety of animal grandmothers, including pandas, bunnies, and ducks, showing loving attention to their grandchildren.  Grandmas across both the animal and human world alike make wonderful memories while giving warm snuggles.

Ms. Nellist, in sweet verse, captures the lavish love that a child adores getting from a grandparent, while winsome pictures clearly demonstrate it.  Grandmas are a blessing from God and that is shown in both verse and picture in this over-sized board book.  For example:

“…She loves me so and I love her!

We’re happy as can be.

My grandma snuggles are the best.

And God gave her to me.”

The author herself is a grandmother, and her love for grandchildren clearly shines through in this delightful volume.

I recommend this 5-star book to children up to four years old, and to all who enjoy grandma hugs!

“Incredible Jobs You’ve (Probably) Never Heard Of” by Natalie Labarre

Never a Dull Moment with These Jobs!

You may think you have heard of just about every job that exists, but you haven’t—really!  Because between these pages are many unbelievable things people do.

For instance, an Elephant Dresser designs elaborate, colorful costumes for pachyderms to wear. Or how about an Odor Tester who smells sweaty arm pits both before, and after, the use of deodorant to determine how well the product works.

The job of the Warden of the Swans requires catching every swan living near the English Windsor Castle.  After you get ahold of them, each swan must be given a health check-up, marked when done and then set the elegant birds free.  It is called Swan Upping!

Many more short explanations of surprising jobs, each with a fun illustration, await children as they thumb through giant pages.  Sprinkled throughout the volume are a few “seek and find” objects and some “get you thinking questions”.   It is fitting that such a big subject be packaged in an impressively oversized, hard-backed book that is nine by fifteen inches tall.

Be sure to get one for the young ones in your life.  They’ll thank you for it once they can pull themselves away from pouring through the pages of this 5-star book.  Elementary through middle-school aged children will enjoy all the things that people do.

“If I Were You” by Lynn Austin

Changing Identities!

What would you do if you discovered someone had stolen your identity and had lived a comfortable life imitating you? This is what war widow Audrey discovers when she comes to America to live with her husband’s family. Not only has this individual built a close relationship with Audrey’s in-laws, the person doing it is her friend Eve.

Although best friends since childhood, the two had lived very different lives in England. Audrey had a life of privilege with every material thing, except her parent’s love. Eve was well-loved, however, both she and her mother worked as servants in Audrey’s home. Besides betrayal and shock, the two women must come to terms with what to do about the situation.

Is it ever okay to lie, or can it be justified if it doesn’t seem to hurt anyone? What if it will help change a desperate situation? Can the truth come out without destroying everything? If you could, would you change identities?

Exploring the “what if’s” of a situation like this made for a very interesting story line.  It kept me glued to the pages to find out what happened. This tale is told against the backdrop of WWII. Besides all the scary things that happened then, the war forever changed the lives of people like Audrey and Eve. The faith-journey the women took both towards and away from God was realistic and added to the tale. I recommend this 5-star book to those who enjoy stories that take place during WWII or of friend relationships.

“Jesus on Display with Love and Power” by Brian Blount

You will do Greater Things….

Do you want to see amazing things take place?  It can happen if you trust Jesus and step out in faith.  Brian Blount has spent many years doing that while ministering inside churches and out on the street.  He gives examples of the many miracles he has witnessed.

Sometimes it is not easy.  The author tells of being in a foreign country, and having people loudly make fun of him when he asked if anyone wanted prayer.  When he felt God direct him to pray for a young boy, that child not only trusted Jesus as his savior, but also became a soul winner.

If Brian had done the comfortable thing and walked away when the jeering began, he would have missed out on leading that boy to Christ, a young soul who had recently tried to commit suicide.

Be aware that all kinds of doubts and negative scenarios will come to your mind when you consider praying for others.  Do not let the devil discourage you. There may even be times your prayer does not get answered.  Those are things we don’t understand, “God’s thoughts are not our thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8.  But do not give up, or quit believing it is God’s will to heal and perform wonders.

This is an encouraging book that will lift you up and strengthen your faith.  Specific suggestions are given to use when praying for someone else. I recommend this 5-star book to all who want to hear of the Lord’s goodness in our current day.

“They Shall Expel Demons” by Derek Prince, Expanded Edition

If You Believe….

Have you had an issue in your life that you have tried to solve using doctors to prayer and everything between, but have had no relief, despite being a Christian?  This book suggests it could be a spiritual issue that will never improve unless the issue of demons is addressed.

At first, the author did not believe demons could be an issue, but then he related the path he traveled that led him from being a skeptic to a believer.  He gives many examples of things he was a part of, or witnessed himself, that testify to this conclusion.  Derek Prince goes on to offer nine steps to follow to see if a problem in your life will be rectified.  New study course information for groups and individuals has been included in this expanded edition of a former work.

This is a fascinating book and subject matter, that I do not believe is out of the realm of possibility.  Jesus addressed demons many times during His time on earth.  I recommend this 5-star book to anyone who struggles with issues that have not been solved.

“The Long Road Home” by Amanda Mason

The Unexpected!

Jake Rawlings, once on the fast track to becoming a professional athlete, was sidetracked by an injury, and nothing has gone his way since.  With the death of his grandfather, he is back in Bluff Creek, where he left as the hometown hero.  It is the place he said he would never return.  Jake arrives in town sporting expensive clothes, driving a fancy sports car and accompanied by his whiny, high-maintenance fiancé.

Julie Wooten, his high school sweetheart, has never gotten over loving Jake, despite the cruel way he used her.  Just like everyone else, she thinks Jake is rolling in money and very successful.  She also has a secret, that if discovered, would change both their lives.

The surprising terms of the will give Jake a chance to get some of the inheritance, but not the amount he feels he deserved.  Can he do it?  Will he be able to stay ahead of the thugs that are after him, or the deal he is being blackmailed into?  Does God matter in any of this?  Most of all, can he ever have peace and happiness in his life?

This story is amazing and once started, you will not want to put it down.  I highly recommend this 5-star book about a fast, hard-living man who comes home again, and what happens to everyone as a result.  Amanda Mason can really spin a great tale, don’t miss out on this one!
