“Mind Games” by Nancy Mehl

Race with a Murderer!

A serial killer is planning on murdering people, and has sent a sinister poem about it to the local newspaper.  The ultimate target is Kaely Quinn, a Behavioral Analyst for the FBI, the best profiler they have.  But the stalker is saving her death for the very end.   He has put very convoluted clues in the poem about the killings he plans to commit.  Each one is a re-creation of a murder investigation in which Kaely was involved.  But she has been a part of so many, and the clues are very vague so it is difficult to pinpoint what he is doing next.

Kaely has two very unusual traits.  First, she is a very dedicated Christian, and secondly, she is the daughter of a notorious stalker.  Her method of identifying stalkers, along with her unshakable belief that God helps her as well, have caused her to live the life of a loner.  Her expertise has prompted jealously among her peers who treat her as an outcast and ridicule her.  She seems almost physic, but she is not.

You will be kept on your toes while reading this because there are a number of people that could be the stalker.  The author does a good job keeping the reader in suspense about who the guilty one is—or if Kaely will survive.  I wasn’t sure who did it until the very end.  Kaely gives a very good explanation of how she came to faith, and why she is convinced God exists. Be warned, since this book is about killings, there are some descriptions of the way the victims die.  It is not as detailed and graphic as secular media, but there is a certain amount of detail.  Keeping that in mind, I would recommend this 5-star book to those who like intense thrillers.
