“The Hearts Charge” by Karen Witemeyer

Old Friends!

War-hardened, and tough, Mark along with Jonah come upon a woman in labor who tries to shoot them every time they come near!  No one was more shocked or ill-prepared, than Mark, when he found he was being drug into helping deliver a baby.  Despite the surprise, he did the deed, only to find the mother rejected the babe.

Because of that, Mark takes the child to a foundling home.  Both he and the woman who answers the door are in for the shock of their lives.  It turns out to be Katherine, who had rejected his marriage proposal ten years earlier.  Lest you think the rest of the story is about how to get these star-crossed lovers back together, there is a whole lot more to this tale.

There are missing children, orphans that have secretly ridden the rails into town, and have been trying to eke out a life.  Alone in the world, these children are being taken by the kiddy-snatchers.

Mark and Jonah make up half of the famous Hanger’s Horsemen.  Well-known for fighting when the odds are against them, but succeeding none-the-less, they aim to find the person behind the snatchings. But they experience one dangerous situation after another.  There are kidnappings, murder attempts, and times they are left for dead.  Will the Hanger’s Horsemen fail this time?

Just when it seems all is lost, some surprises take place, including the unmasking of the one behind it.  Mark and Jonah made their appearance in book one of this series, and it is fun to learn more about them.  No worries, though, this tale can stand on its own.

I recommend this 5-star book to those who like clean, exciting stories told from a Christian viewpoint.

“Atticus Caticus” by Sarah Maizes

For The Love of a Pet!

Atticus Caticus and his boy have a good time doing all things cat.  After Atticus is awakened, he stretches his back like a Halloween cat while opening his little mouth to yawn bigger than seems possible.  When the food box is shaken, he runs through the house like a pony, with his ears like a bat.

Latter, he and his boy both have fun with string while getting it everywhere.  Atticus even shows him how much he would like to be with bird outside the window.  All in all, the two have a great time together wearing each other out.  The day ends with Atticus “kneading dough” before the two of them drift off to sleep.

Over-sized and hard-backed, this book shows the fun, love, and great addition a pet is to anyone’s—especially a child’s—life.  Illustrations of the child and his cat will charm you and young ones, and fill you with lots of warm fuzzies.  This book’s purpose is to bring smiles and laughter, which it does purr-fectly.  The rhyming words will roll off the tongue causing lots giggles. I highly recommend this 5-star tale to youngsters through pre-school.  I highly recommend this 5-star tale to youngsters through pre-school.

“God’s Always Loving You” by Janna Matthies

Illustrated by Airin O’Callaghan

Someone Who Cares is Always There!

Who is always there when things are good, or when they are not?  God is.  This adorable board book reminds little ones that The Lord knows them, is with them, and wants to help them at all times.  Endearing, colorful illustrations spotlight the love that is always there for each child.

This is a great book because it explains the enormous affection and care God has for each one of us.  It is constantly present, no matter what is going on in our lives–and it is told in a way little children can relate to.

If something sad happens, He is right there to help.  It can come through the arms of love when The Lord sends someone to wrap their arms around them.  Or it can be the joy He puts in their hearts when something they like happens.  God is there through everything.

The verse is done in a rhyming style that will delight little ears. This over-sized book has thick pages that small fingers will appreciate.   I highly recommend this 5-star book, it will be loved and enjoyed by children through pre-school.

“Come Back to Me” by Jody Hedlund

Back in Time!

Marian Creighton’s father is a brilliant scientist, and she is as well. The two have devoted their lives to finding the remedy for a genetic disease, the one that took the life of his wife and her mother.  Now her sister, Ellen, has the disease, so father and daughter have been working feverishly to find the cure.

Marian thinks her father has lost touch with reality with his latest theory involving The Tree of Life from the Garden of Eden, Holy Water, and time travel.  She has written it off until she is threatened, and her father’s home is ransacked.  Danger and treachery seem to be on every side.  Could this theory be true?

After investigating, she tries out his theory and finds herself in 1381 England.  As she searches for the answer her father said would be there, she finds it is a very dangerous time for a single woman.  A noble knight, William Durham, offers her protection, but she must marry him to get it.

Can she find the correct Holy Water in time to save her sister, and return herself to the  modern day?  Will she be able to survive the heartbreak of living centuries apart from Will, the only man she has ever loved? Will she sacrifice her life trying to make this happen?

This story is so well written, you will find yourself forgetting it is fiction, and not real.  It has mystery, thrills, treachery, and even time travel.  Even if you don’t like that genre, you will love this story.  This 5+ star book has it all, and I highly recommend it.

“Pick a Holman KJV Bible Giveaway”

Winner Gets to Pick!

I am excited to say the winner of this giveaway can take their choice of one of the following three Holman KJV Bibles.

The first is the Holman KJV Study Bible. This remarkable Bible is as amazing to look through as it is to feel.  Its LeatherTouch cover feels really good to both the hands and fingers.

Each book has an introduction along with the background of the time period, included are insights that explain what makes the book unique, and a timeline of what point in history it took place. It is all done in an easy-to-read 9-point font, with the words of Christ in red. An abundance of award-winning notes add clarity to the scripture.

There are colorful maps and pictures sprinkled throughout the volume, making this Bible a true feast for the eyes and spirit. The back of the volume is packed with a concordance, a “King’s English” glossary of terms and 17th-century expressions, along with both a one-year and a three-year reading plan. This is a substantially sized Bible, but it has it all, including 5-stars.  I highly recommend it for any research, study or reading of God’s word.

The second is the Holman KJV Ultrathin Reference Bible that is perfect when you want to quickly look something up.  Usability is simple, each page has two columns with references in the middle and the words of Christ are in red.  The 8.5-point font is easy on the eyes.  Its thin size and light weight make it a cinch to carry, the cover feels very good in the hands, and it fits perfectly in a purse, backpack or briefcase.

Despite its compact size, this Bible packs a punch. The back of the volume has a guide to the glossary of terms used, along with a detailed concordance, and a harmony of the Gospels.

I recommend this as the first choice for any reference or questions you may have about the Scriptures that you want to find rapidly—or as an easy to grab and read 5-star Bible.

The third is the Holman KJV One Big Story Bible.  It has much more than past children’s Bibles because of all its extras.  One hundred forty-six full-color illustrations are brought to life through Digital Pop-Up technology—this makes the Bible scenes seem to pop off the pages—this will attract today’s children who are used to our visual world. The colorful illustrations will really draw children’s eyes.

Every book has an introduction written just with kids in mind.  Some of the many features include The Christ Connection that shows how each Bible story points to Christ.  The Big Questions/Big Answers feature tells curious kids what they want to know.  The Big Word features answers and definitions giving children understanding of Biblical words and terms.  Kids will be attracted to the “extras” this 5-star Bible has for them. I recommend it for third through eighth graders.

For over 400 years, the King James Version has been the trusted translation for millions of believers, and that translation will be found in these three Bibles.  There are tons more Bibles that Holman offers with great finishes and styles.  You can see the great selection of Bibles available now (and many on sale) at www.thekingjamesBible.com.
